Memories of a Few Weeks Ago

Congratulations, But Your Degree Has Done Absolutley Nothing For Me

What has thou degree done to thee?
Has thou education made you more worthy than me?
Your degree…are but measly words to appease those who cannot see through you.
The degree has tainted you
Made you but an intelligent fool
Draining practicality into your school’s cesspool
Studying hard
Studying very hard
To ace the next test
Selfishly keeping the answers compressed
Never, ever, sharing your learning with the rest
Pitying the oppressed
A self-professed Moses with enough secrets to keep the people in Egypt
For your degree is worth more than setting the people free.
I wonder
What has thou degree done to thee?
What about your thesis should I envy?
When I’m reading what I’m just not seeing
Seeking what is hard for me to believe
Wanting to deem it a lie in disguise
Trying to reason why
My mind is on standby
Waiting for someone…something to respond to my cry
Why
Why should I yearn for this degree
When your bloody pen has struck me time and time again
It should be a sin to write so much
To have a degree
But a life, you’ll never touch
It’s a mystery to me why someone like me should ever fancy a degree.
